French ‘do not shower enough’

While some people are very hygiene-conscious too many are skipping showers and hand-washing

ONE in 29 people in France takes a shower only once a week, a new survey shows.

The study into French washing habits also found that one in five does not shower every day. On the other end of the scale, 12% take at least two a day.

The poll also shows hand washing habits are not systematic – 13% do not wash their hands after using the toilet and one in five does not wash their hands before meals.

Carried out by the BVA institute, the survey also asked if people wash their hands after using public transport – 45% do (though 54% think buses and metros are “the dirtiest object in daily life”).

A hygiene-conscious 21.4% wash their hands at least 10 times a day, with elderly people the most likely to wash a lot and young people the least (only 43% of 18-34-year-olds wash their hands before meals).

The survey was done to coincide with yesterday’s Global Handwashing Day.
