Bac pass rates down on 2009

Early results suggest fewer students passed this year, but full figures will not be available until next week

THE NUMBER of students passing the baccalauréat has fallen this year, early figures suggest.

The pass rate for the general bac exams was 74.6%, down 3.6 points on last year.

The full set of results will be known next week, after the oral catch-up tests are taken. These are a chance for those who missed out on a pass (10 out of 20) by no more than two points to retake some of their exams orally.

Some 77.4% of candidates in the bac professionnel passed, down 2.5 points on last year, while the pass rate for the technical pathway rose 4.5 points to 66.1%.

The youngest candidate to pass was 14-year-old Déesse Dji Ala from Rouen, who scored an average of 11.5 out of 20, with 16 out of 20 in English.

Many students checking their results online had to wait several hours yesterday due to a strike by school technical staff which delayed publication.
