FORTY members of the Royal Air Forces Association south-west branch met in the Médoc, north of Bordeaux, to dedicate a new branch standard in memory of a former member who was killed in a car crash in November 2008.
Andy Wilson was the branch secretary while a serving RAF officer at the French air force base at Mérignac near Bordeaux from 1998 to 2000.
He was also president of the Bordeaux British Community. His wife Tess and sons Iain and Richard presented the new standard which was blessed by branch chaplain Hazel Door.
The RAFA branch, which was formed over 25 years ago by officers at the Mérignac base, holds regular bilingual meetings.
Nearly half of the branch members are French who served at RAF Elvington, near York, during the Second World War in the Groupes Guyenne et Tunisie.
