SHE has just finished a gruelling 350km charity bike ride through Jordan – but Jackie Mudd has already got her mind set on the next big challenge, cycling 450km across China in less than a week.
The Lot-et-Garonne singer turned “cycling nut” raised almost €3,000 in October for Women for Women, a charity which supports scientists and clinicians who prevent, diagnose and treat a range of conditions including cancer, miscarriage and infertility.
Starting at the Dead Sea, her team of more than 60 fellow cyclists rode through amazing scenery, up extreme hills and through desert to reach Aqaba on the shore of the Red Sea.
“Jordan was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life, however it was also one of the most satisfying,” Jackie says. “Through the trip we had laughs, tears and met some people who will be friends forever.”
Preparations are now underway for the China challenge, which involves almost 100km a day for five days, scheduled for early May 2011.

And it is not just the good work of the Women for Women charity that is benefiting from these bike rides.
“I decided it was time to get my life in order, if I wanted to live long and healthy,” Jackie says on her blog. “Since starting I have lost 20 kilos.”
