NOKIA has recalled 100,000 mobile phone chargers sold in France this summer amid concerns they could electrocute users.

The firm is urging anyone who has bought a Nokia mobile or a new charger since mid-June to check whether they are affected.

The faulty batch of AC-3E chargers was manufactured by BYD Electronic between June 15 and August 9 and has been on sale throughout Europe since then.

Nokia said the charger's plastic shell risked coming free and the bare wiring could give out electric shocks when plugged into the mains.

The manufacturer said that although no injuries had been reported, it was recalling the batch and offering a free replacement as a precaution.

A website has been set up where users can enter the serial number on the charger to find out whether they need a replacement.
