December 8 strike could halt trains
November 12, 2009

RAIL services across France could be disrupted on December 8 due to a planned national day of protest.

Three drivers' unions - CGT, UNSA and CFDT - have called the industrial action to coincide with the opening up of the French rail network to competition.

According to rail industry website WebTrains.net, the unions fear jobs will be lost and employment conditions are getting worse as work gets underway to reorganise the way the SNCF is run.

Further details on what action will take place are not yet available.

If it goes ahead, mainline rail running information will be available closer to the time at InfoLignes.com and local service disruptions at Ter-SNCF.com.

Services in the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d-Azur are affected by industrial action today. The Gares en Mouvement website has live departure board information for most of the main railway stations in the region.
