Corsica poll boost to French state

89% of Corsicans do not want independence for the island, according to a recent poll.

The findings were published in monthly newspaper Corsica which titled the article Le sondage qui change tout 'the poll which changes everything'.

Among those against independence were 59% who still considered themselves nationalists.

Only 10% of the population wanted independence from France.

51% of those surveyed wanted greater powers for local government.

51% placed spending power as their main concern, above questions of nationalism.

The study was carried out by Ifop and involved 503 people crossing a range of ages, professions and sex. Interviews were carried out over the phone or in person.
