ENGLISH-language theatre company ACT is putting on its final performance of John Steinbeck’s The Pearl in Saint-Maur-des-Fossés (outside Paris) on May 28 at 21.00.
The play tells the story of Kino, a young fisherman who finds “the largest pearl in the world” in an oyster.
The discovery is supposed to bring happiness and new opportunities for his family, but instead Kino is confronted with greed, jealousy and violence and eventually decides to throw the cursed pearl back into the depths of the sea.
