Talk on French and English humour
Connexion edition: September 2009

BESTSELLING author Jean-Loup Chiflet is to explain how to translate humour from French to English and the other way round at a signing at WHSmith in Paris next week.

The capital’s English-language bookstore is organising a signing event on September 22 at 7.30pm to coincide with the launch of Chiflet’s new series of translated cartoons from the New Yorker magazine.

Chiflet has become something of an expert on the difference between the French and English sense of humour. In 1985 he published a bilingual dictionary of idiomatic expressions, Ciel Mon Mari.

The talk and signing takes place at the WHSmith store at 248 rue de Rivoli in Paris. The nearest metro station is Concorde.

To reserve a place, email books@whsmith.fr or see www.whsmith.fr for more details.
