‘In da face S&P’ tweets PM’s office

Surprisingly colloquial tweet over Nobel economist’s support for France is rapidly deleted

11 November 2013

“IN DA face S&P” was the message from the Prime Minister’s office over the weekend.

The somewhat colloquial tweet from Jean-Marc Ayrault’s official account was deleted rapidly, but not before one internet user had grabbed a screen shot.

The PM’s account @Matignon was retweeting an article written by the Nobel prize-winning economist Paul Krugman in support of the French economy.

Mr Krugman has been quoted in several publications including The Economist, New York Times and Le Monde, saying that France was being criticised for attempting to shrink its debt with tax rises rather than spending cuts, when the latter could actually prove more damaging.

It appears someone on the PM’s staff could not resist a dig at the ratings agency Standard and Poor’s, which last week downgraded France’s economy from AA+ to AA status.

While there has yet to be an official response from Matignon, it is not the first time that staff there have confused their own accounts and the official one, according to Le Parisien.

Last week @Matignon posted a photo of a Nanterre-Kiev basket ball match, before quickly deleting it. Mr Ayrault was not present at the match.
