Jewellery thieves were caught by Paris police last night after a raid on Cartier

POLICE in Paris caught would-be thieves who robbed the Cartier jewellery shop near the Arc de Triomphe.

The men are in police custody after they reportedly entered the store, threatened staff with arms and then left with jewellery, making their escape on a scooter as police sirens sounded.

The were caught after a police chase and after taking refuge in a hairdressers where they reportedly took a hostage. They gave themselves up after negotiations with the police.

The mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, and Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve hailed the bravery of the police.
