The president has reportedly had to apologise after his teenage son threw a tomato and marbles at a policewoman

PRESIDENT-CANDIDATE Sarkozy has had to apologise after his youngest son threw a tomato and marbles at a police officer.

Police sources have reportedly said a policewoman on guard duty made an official report last Thursday after Louis, 15, threw things at her as she stood outside the Elysée in rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré.

She said she was hit on the cheek by one of the marbles thrown by Louis, who was in the main courtyard with friends.

She made an internal report, but no official complaint, after colleagues told her who the miscreant was. The head of the prefect of police’s office met her and said the situation called for reserve, considering the approaching election.

Mr Sarkozy reportedly invited the young woman to meet him the following day and apologised, saying it was the “unfortunate act of a child”.

Louis is Mr Sarkozy’s son with his last wife, Cécilia.

The Elysée has refused to comment.
