‘Sniff-dating’ is new Paris idea

The capital is set to hold its first Pheromone Party, where guests sniff out potential partners by scent alone

Singletons sniffing out romance in Paris this Valentine’s Day can follow their nose to a party at which guests smell used T-shirts to choose potential partners.

And you should forget investing in fancy perfume before the event because, according to organisers of the Pheremone Party, your natural scent is all you need to land a date.

At the event, single people let prospective partners smell their worn T-shirts to decide which scent they are most attracted to.

Guests are invited to arrive at the event with a T-shirt they have slept in for three nights, and which has become infused with their natural odour.

It would be too much to ask the fashionable French to turn up for a date in a much-loved old T-shirt, so organisers in Paris have joined forces with a clothes retailer to supply identical garments for the party, and a special bag to preserve the scent.

Upon arrival, guests put their worn t-shirts in numbered bags on a table for others to smell at their leisure.

People who discover a smell that attracts them then have a picture taken with the bag at a special photo station. Images are displayed on giant screens at the venue - revealing which people may have real chemistry.

Unsurprisingly, the unusual dating parties originated in Los Angeles in 2012 and have grown in popularity in America over the past couple of years.

If you are not planning on attending the Pheromone Party in Paris on Valentine’s Day, but want to make sure your scent is at its most alluring when you go on a date, the Pheromone Party people suggest you should cut down on spices, garlic, and onions, limit the use of fragrant products - and stop shaving under your armpits for a few days.
