‘Sunday’ newspaper always a day late

Julian ROBERTSSaint-Michel-de-Double (Dordogne)

I HAVE read with interest the comments made on late delivery of magazines.

However, nothing seems to have been said about Sunday papers. Here in the Dordogne we get The Sunday Times and Telegraph a day late with less than half of the features in UK editions and they have the nerve to charge €5, which is roughly double the UK cost. I have heard that in the Charente the full edition is available on the correct date.

Helen Downing, logistics manager for The Sunday Times, replies: “We try to ensure retailers in areas that have high concentrations of expats and British holidaymakers receive our titles on the day of UK publication but the existing distribution network and distance of the nearest print site precludes us from doing so in the Dordogne. The Charente does not currently receive The Sunday Times on a Sunday either.

“We believe that, for the equivalent of 224 tabloid pages, the edition represents good value considering the costs involved in printing overseas. Furthermore, this cover price has not increased since July 2003, despite inflation and other major price rises.”
