Teachers to strike on September 6-7

Secondary teachers plan two-day strike that will coincide with another industry-wide protest over pensions reform

5 July 2010

SECONDARY school teachers have announced plans to walk out on a two-day strike in September - just days after the start of the new academic year.

The biggest teaching union, Snes-FSU, says it members will strike on September 6 and 7 to protest against "serious attacks" on jobs and budgets.

The strike will affect collèges and lycées around France.

The second day, September 7, coincides with a national day of strike action across several industries and professions.

All of the main French unions are backing the day of strikes and protests against the government's plans to raise the legal retirement age to 62.

The school rentrée for children across France is on Thursday, September 2.
