The €22,000 dinner bill

A sumptuous charity dinner at the Château de Versailles billed for September 17 will cost each diner €22,000.

A charity dinner at the Château de Versailles billed for September 17 will cost each diner €22,000.

No less than 17 Michelin-starred chefs will prepare the food around the themes of lobster, fish and caviar, volaille de Bresse (chicken from the Bresse region, the only free-range poultry to have its own appellation d’origine controlée), roots, vegetables and apples.

Winner of last year’s “best sommelier in the world” title Andreas Larsson will choose the wines, which will include grand crus from the famous Château d’Yquem.

The dinner is being hosted by Alzheimer’s research charity IFRAD which hopes to keep 25% of the €300,000 bill.

Twelve diners have already reserved their places – although none of them are French – from countries including the US, UK and Holland.
Event organizer said: “We don’t expect too many French guests. This kind of thing doesn’t really feature in the French mentality.”
