Uggie gets date at White House

The Artist star to meet President Obama for dinner

UGGIE, the dog star of the multi-Oscar winner The Artist, has been given a special invite to the White House for a dinner with President Obama.

The Jack Russell - who also starred in Water for Elephants - has been invited as a special guest of the Washington Times newspaper at the White House correspondents' dinner on April 28.

He will be accompanied by his owner and trainer Omar van Mullen in what is thought to be his last public appearance before retiring.

Last year he won a special Palm Dog award at Cannes for his efforts in The Artist, where he upstaged the two-legged stars, such as Jean Dujardin.

He was also awarded "Best Dog" in the Golden Collars - awards organised in Los Angeles by an American dog magazine.

Journalists are hoping for a sound bite when Uggie meets Obama's Portuguese water dog, Bo.
