Update: Hospital boy found in Spain

Parents who took a five-year-old boy with a brain tumour from hospital in Southampton and sparked Europe-wide alert are traced in Spain

POLICE in Spain have arrested the parents of a five-year-old boy with a brain tumour who was taken from Southampton General Hospital on Friday.

The couple - Brett King, 51, and Naghemeh King, 45, both from Portsmouth - appeared at court in Velez-Malaga yesterday in handcuffs. They face extradition to the UK.

Hampshire police had put out a Europe-wide arrest warrant for the parents, saying that they took Ashya King from hospital without permission. He needed constant medical care and there were "serious concerns" for his life.

Ashya, who recently underwent surgery, cannot communicate verbally and it is believed his parents boarded a cross-Channel ferry from Portsmouth to Cherbourg at 4pm BST yesterday with Ashya's six siblings.

Police said they thought the couple were seeking alternative cancer care on the Continent.
