This mayor is not moving
I read “This mayor is unhelpful” (Letters, April) with great interest because we have the same problem, but for a different reason.
We live in Maine-et-Loire in a fortified medieval town on the frontier between old France and Bretagne. It is at the cross-roads of important trade routes and is crying out to be developed as a formidable tourist attraction. Not only would this benefit the local small shops but would also increase the wealth of the town and reduce unemployment.
Before retirement I was deeply involved in self-employed and small business affairs and was a National Chairman of a large organisation which represented them at local, governmental and European level.
The problem is that our mayor shows no interest in commerce and letters explaining the benefits of promoting the town as a tourist attraction fall on deaf ears.
We live in hope that, at some stage, he will wake up to the potential gold-mine that he is sitting on “et sortir son doigt!”
