Vets, pets and excessive fees

19 February 2017

Simeon Bull wrote in your January edition that they expected to be stopped when bringing their dogs to France (No fuss over bringing pets).

The Pet Travel Scheme is for taking pets back into the UK from areas where, in theory, rabies is endemic.

In the same issue, Ann Ford wrote that she has been quoted €150-€160 for spaying a cat (Sterilising cats is not a snip!). This does seem an awful lot. The practice in Dorset where I was a partner charges £55 (c€63).

The fees of a practice I use in Vannes are comparable to UK fees. British vets must display in waiting areas or on their website their fees for such procedures. Perhaps the profession in France should adopt this idea.
