Chris triumphant for CSF at Col du Tourmalet

Chris set himself three mammoth challenges in 2019, all to raise funds for Cancer Support France. First he aimed to cycle 15,000 kms and climb 150,000 metres during the year. Then in June he successfully took part in the Ardechoise, a gruelling endurance cycle ride. Finally, he needed to complete a cycle ride alone and unsupported from the Eiffel Tower to the Col du Tourmalet. When he started pedalling in Paris at 3pm on Friday 30th August he already knew he would reach his second goal........IF he reached the Col! After an 'incredible journey', Chris powered his way up to the summit of the famous Tour de France Col at 2.15pm on Sunday 8th September to a warm welcome and much applause. Pat Lockett, the CSF National President, was there to greet him with CSF members, and to congratulate him with chocolates and wine. Jayne Ray, the CSF Gascony President, had sculpted a lovely ceramic bowl which was presented to Chris to mark the occasion and glasses of champagne were raised in his honour. A fantastic achievement which must have seemed a dream when Chris first suggested it over a year ago. AND not only did Chris complete his cycling challenges, he also beat his fundraising goal. He set a target of €1500 and raised over €2500! This amazing amount will be well used by CSF for training its Active Listeners spread across France.
