Perigord Lawn Bowls Club

Registration #:

The Périgord Lawn Bowls Club was originally “born” in the grounds of La Charrue, a Gite/ Campsite/ Restaurant complex by the D939 between Vieux Mareuil and Monsec in the Department of Dordogne, France. The green was constructed during 2005 / 2006 by the owner of La Charrue, and the club's first full bowling season commenced in May 2007, with a membership of around the 50 mark people with both experienced and novice bowlers.

At the end of the 2016 season, the club relocated to The Royal Oak Mareuil, an English style pub that opened its doors on the January, 25th 2012 in the quaint French town of Mareuil sur Belle in the Aquitaine. The owner John Bailey and his daughter Josephine Bailey have recently constructed a full size Lawn Bowling green (6 rinks) and have – prior to hosting PLBC, been accommodating visitors and local people alike for a year or two.

The PLBC competition season consists of five singles competitions for both Ladies and Gentlemen, and three pairs competitions for Ladies, Gentlemen and mixed pairs in the annual club championships. Additionally, every Friday we run a mixed triples league competition, whilst on Wednesday evening’s we hold a club night.

Our programme has in addition three sponsored competitions with a further six to seven events held during the season. Since the winter of 2009 we have been playing Indoor Short Mat at a rented Salle de Fete, in Charras, a small village in the Dordogne. The club have three indoor “short mats” and a mini competition is run throughout the winter period.
