A treat for lovers of classic cars

The third annual Perigueux Classic Auto show will feature hundreds of historic vehicles, including an Aston Martin DB2, a Sunbeam Rapier - and one of only two 1926 Morgan Aeros in existence...

Classic car lovers will be in for a real treat if they head to the Dordogne later this month.

The third annual Perigueux Classic Auto show takes place at the parc des expositions du Périgord à Marsac sur l'Isle on the weekend of February 17 and 18.

The main exhibition hall, displaying well over 100 cars from several dozen clubs and organisations from around Perigueux and further afield. A large block has been allocated for ‘British-cars and participants’.

As well as quintessential british-specials and lightweight race-derived cars on the British car stand - such as a Lotus11, the Magny-Cours superlite Triking racer, and a delightful Austin 7 racer - there will be a thirties Alvis tourer, the reconnaissance mk1 Jaguar for the Monte Carlo rally in 1959, an Aston Martin DB2, a Sunbeam Rapier, an RME Riley, more Jaguars from the sixties and one of only two 1926 Morgan Aeros in existence, besides the MGs and Triumphs exhibits on specific club stands.

On the exhibition site, in another smaller hall with the main theme for this year, is the Alpine stand showing more than 30 models built or raced, including the newly introduced A110 . This has been made possible with the help of local enthusiasts and especially the main Alpine of France club, who have also managed to get manufacturer Renault and the museum interested.

In that hall, specialist local companies with expertise in car restoration and supply of parts, remakes, tools etc will exhibite their wares and services. The VaaP association, which organises the event, has restricted the number of such stands to one of each particular trade/expertise, selecting from the best who attended the previous event early in 2017.

In the main restauration hall, a professional team brought in to do the catering will produce everything from snacks to full sit-down meals (20-25euros). Around the grounds, other small stands may offer snacks.

On hard-standing, between the two halls, several hundred classic-cars of all ages are shown outside in 8 to 10 rows: these turn up at the showground during the course of Saturday or Sunday: entry is free for car and driver. Last year more than 1,000 classic cars attended.
