Royal congratulations for Outward Bound students and a call for new recruits

Youngsters can find a new way to take control of their summer with Outward Bound adventure courses which are being offering in the UK with help from the Monaco and Côte d’Azur organising group.

Since its formation in 2004, OBMonaco has already sent more than 300 self-funded participants from the Côte d’Azur on amazing Outward Bound experiences with nights under canvas, youth-led expeditions and the opportunity for international friendships that can last a lifetime.

These youngsters, above, seen with Prince Albert II of Monaco, excelled in Outward Bound courses in the UK during July and August 2016 and the prince awarded certificates to each of the achievers and chatted with them to hear firsthand about their experiences.

OBMonaco is actively seeking more participants for its 2017 series of courses where students can learn skills for life from team-building and group activities to ultimate challenges in outdoor situations. The courses are in English.

Smartphones and TV are not required and the courses, covering several different levels of ability and age, are held in three locations in the Lake District, two in Wales and one at Loch Eil in Scotland.

The 32 young people who took part in the Outward Bound Monaco courses were mostly on Skills for Life training in Aberdovey and Ullswater and enjoyed activities include rock climbing, camping, orienteering, canoeing, bridge and raft building, environmental education and mental challenges.

Outward Bound is a registered charity providing access to its outstanding facilities for children from all areas of Europe.

Michael Peagram, president of Outward Bound Monaco, said: “The outdoor activities are not only sporting and enjoyable, but they are character forming and they take our young people into a new sphere of challenge, bravery and self-discovery.

“At the same time as having fun, they are learning skills for life such as resilience, leadership, and team building. In today’s fast changing and uncertain world Outward Bound is an environment where maturity and determination are grown”.

This year’s courses are again in Aberdovey and Ullswater and OBMonaco is organising travel arrangements and supervision while courses are delivered by Outward Bound UK, which was last month named the UK’s best employer.
