Brexit's divorce bill in euros

The financial settlement which is a part of the Brexit deal – but is seen by the EU as debts that are payable with or without a deal – will be payable in euros, an EU source says.

The House of Commons Library estimates it to come to £35-39 billion, payable over decades as expenses come up to be paid.

It includes liabilities included in the current EU budget to  the end of 2020 and others like paying for British EU civil servants’ pensions.

The pounds value could increase if the exchange rate was to drop further after Brexit.
