Britons in France: Residency card website opens today

See our online Brexit section later for full details from the Interior Ministry of how to apply to obtain the new obligatory card

The Connexion is attending an Interior Ministry press conference this morning to find out details of how to use the new website for Britons’ residency cards that opens today.

We will be publishing information from the meeting later today.

The website is now open at this link. You need to click on the phrase that starts: 'Procédure en ligne...'.

All British people living in France before the end of 2020 will have to apply for one of the new cards in order to be able to stay legally in France, with applications required by June 20, 2021 at the latest.

The cards are to apply to maintain most of the same rights that Britons have enjoyed as European citizens, under the terms of the Withdrawal Agreement treaty signed between the UK and EU at the start of this year.

There are expected to be two kinds, cards conferring full, ongoing rights for those who can show residency in France for more than five years, and temporary cards for those who have lived in France for less time than this.

The latter group will be able to apply for the full cards after they have totalled five years in France.
