Burkini ban mayor is told to pay damages

A mayor who banned the burkini from his commune’s swimming pool has been ordered to pay damages after several legal challenges.

When the pool in Lorette, Loire, opened in July a notice banned the burkini on the order of mayor Gérard Tardy.
He later withdrew the ban as his council had not voted for it, but three anti-discrimination groups took him to court and won €700 damages each.
