Cold snap and rain coming to France this weekend

Temperatures are to drop significantly overnight, the national forecaster said

The weather is to turn wintry in France this weekend, with temperature drops of up to 10°C overnight and heavy rain in Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur and Corsica.

Snowy rain is expected even at low altitudes, especially in the Massif Central and in the Pyrénées, Météo France said.

Although the forecaster has not issued any official alerts for the weather this weekend, it has characterised it as “unsettled” and “cold”.

While today (Friday October 26), the country is seeing highs of 21°C in the south, and 23°C in Corsica, by tomorrow (Saturday October 27), many of these same areas will drop to as low as 9°C during the day.

Météo France has called this weekend "unsettled and cold"

The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region will drop to as low as 6°C, and 2°C overnight to Sunday.

Heavy rain of 50-100mm is also expected in the far south-eastern France and western Corsica.

Snow is also expected at high altitudes across most of eastern France, with 5-10 cm at 1,000 metres; and 20-30 cm at 1,500 metres.
