Covid-19 France: 418 deaths in 24 hours

Four hundred and 18 people have died in hospital in France the last 24 hours, bringing the number of deaths from the virus here to 3,024. 

It is the largest increase in the number of deaths in one day since the epidemic began.

Nearly 21,000 patients are currently in hospital receiving care for Covid-19 in France – 5,107 of whom are in intensive care (an increase of 475 in 24 hours). The number of people who have had care in hospital but since returned home is 7,923 (an increase of 792 in the last day).

Just over a third (34%) of patients in intensive care are under 60 years of age.

The figures were announced this evening by the head of the French health service Jérôme Salomon.

Ile-de-France and the Grand Est remain the regions the most impacted.
