Fake police and plumber warning

Trick involves fake workers knocking on doors in urban areas

Residents of Annecy's urban areas are being warned about a scam.

The trick involves fake plumbers or water company employees coming to your home, followed some time after by fake police officers warning of the fake workers.

This technique is known about but it still works, sadly.

Firstly you’ll get a knock from a fake worker (a plumber or water company employee, for example). Their spiel is always more or less the same - there could be a problem with your pipes.

The ‘worker’ will then try to locate and fix the supposed problem, pretending to examine your pipework, for example under your sink in the kitchen or bathroom, before leaving.

Then a fake police officer will show up warning you of scammers operating in your area and asking to check whether any of your valuables have gone missing. This is when jewellery and money etc. will be stolen.

Be warned, this scam is happening in Annecy but it could also be taking place elsewhere.
