Météo France warns of snow and inclement weather

Snow is forecast for a large part of France today (Wednesday February 26), including in Brittany, Normandy, Hauts-de-France, Paris, Grand Est and Bourgogne, forecaster Météo France has warned.

The forecaster said: "After very mild weather throughout February" more wintery weather is expected "today and tomorrow".

Snow will affect much of the north of the country, up to and including in the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes, at even at very low altitudes of around 400 metres up.

In Normandy, Ile-de-France and the Hauts-de-France, the risk of snow will drop by midday today - but more is expected tomorrow. Between 3-5 cm of snow is expected in the north of Hauts-de-France to Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Some areas may see 5-10 cm, Météo France said.

In the north east, snow may fall at altitudes as low as 300 metres.

In the south-west of the country, snow is also expected, but at higher altitudes; at around 500-600 metres over the Massif Central, and up to 700-1,000 metres in the Pyrenees. In Corsica, the rain-snow line will be higher still, at around 1,300 metres.

Later in the week, more snow will fall in the Alps, but rain will return to the Massif Central.

Most of the country will be hit by inclement weather today and tomorrow, even if it does not snow in your region, said Météo France.

Rain and hail are expected to hit in most areas, along with strong winds of up to 100-120kph in Brittany, in the Alps, the Mediterranean, and up to 140kph on the coast in Corsica.

Calmer, more mild conditions are expected to return by the end of the week, Météo France said.
