France on red alert for pollen

Those with allergies warned as birch pollen arrives

The next few days are forecast to be sunny, but this is not good news for those with allergies.

An announcement by the air surveillance organisation RNSA on Friday, valid until April 14, stated the majority of France will be under red alert for birch pollen.

‘Birch pollen will cause a high risk of allergy, except for areas near the Mediterranean and south of the Gironde River.’ Said the announcement.

In the Southwest of France, pollen will be from plane tree, oak and birch. The risk will vary according to region. In the East and around the Mediterranean, plane trees will give out less pollen than last week but the allergic should still watch out for oak and pellitory pollen. The arrival of warm sunny days could also mean a return of grass pollen.
