French hunt list has foxes

An official list of 10 species which can be killed by hunters includes foxes for most of France – to the dismay of wildlife protection groups.

The list runs until 2022 and reproduces an existing list but the words have changed from “harmful animals” to animals  that “cause damage”.

Species vary across France but, as well as foxes, include martens, polecats, weasels, crows, jays, starlings and magpies.

The wildlife charity Aspas says it opposes a “hit list” giving a generalised right to kill native species as it harms the balance of ecosystems.
