Gendarmes stopped speeding driver then gave him a lift

Parents praise officers’ ‘kindness’ and ‘humanity’ for making sure he made it to Bac exam centre on time

Gendarmes have been praised by parents after stopping their son for speeding at 125kph in an 80kph zone and taking away his licence – because they then helped him to get to his Bac exam centre on time.

The gendarmes were patrolling in Nouzilly, near Tours in Indre-et-Loire, when they spotted the speeding driver and stopped him.

While his ticket was being written out the driver told the officer he had been driving so fast because he was in a rush to get to his Bac exam.

Although the gendarmes said that did not excuse his high speed they decided to give him a hand and gave him a lift to the lycée so he could still do the exam.

It is not often gendarmes get a thank-you note after stopping a driver for speeding and handing them an instant ban – but the man’s parents were delighted at the gendarme’s “kindness” and “humanity”.

The Gendarmerie in Indre-et-Loire put the letter and story on their Facebook page.
