Fewer babies but men living longer

The number of babies born in France fell for the third year last year, down 17,000 to 767,000 but the population rose 0.3% to 67.2 million to be the second largest in the EU, behind Germany.

Life expectancy for men rose 0.2% to 79.5 years but stayed at 85.3 for women while 19.6% of the population is now over 65.
