Leftists looking for love create Facebook group

La France Insoumise claims to have around 500,000 supporters

Insoumeetic describes itself as a group for “intransigent singletons”

The group is a merger of the words Insoumise, a reference to La France Insoumise, and Meetic, an online dating service headquartered in France.

The closed Facebook group brings together supporters of La France Insoumise, a left-wing political party founded by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who became a member of the National Assembly in the 2017 Legislative Elections.

The group has only 3000 members and was launched around legislative elections as a joke. A 39-year-old supporter of Mr Mélenchon came up with the idea for the page.

“It’s to have a laugh, but also meet people, so it benefits everyone,” says the page’s creator. “We publish the things we want to and we avoid talking politics too much. It’s the comeback of the Insoumis, there to talk and respect each other”.

The group has published a map showing Insoumis singletons around France.
