Man electrocuted climbing on to roof of TGV

23-year-old fighting for his life after being thrown onto the platform at Gare de l'Est

A 23-year-old man is fighting for his life after being electrocuted while trying to climb on to the roof of a TGV at Gare de l'Est in Paris.

He was thrown to the platform after coming into contact with overhead wires, police said. He was taken to hospital where his condition is said to be life-threatening.

It is thought that the young man, an Afghan national, was trying to reach Germany.

In May, a similar incident at gare du Nord ended tragically, when a young person, apparently trying to reach England, was killed.

A month earlier, two 17-year-olds were injured between Vintimille and Nice as they tried to cross from France to Italy on the roof of a TGV.
