Street artist gives a new view of presidential campaign

This weekend’s presidential election took a funny turn this week as scenes from the Mr Men were pasted on top of official election posters outside a school.

With Monsieur Dream, Mr Incredible, Madame Authoritarian, Mme Happy, Mr Perfect, Mr Me and others completing the list of 11 candidates, street artist Efix borrowed the Roger Hargreaves characters to bring some light relief to the campaign in Montpellier.

Efix publicised the posters on his Facebook page and his post was quickly shared 10,000 times as he told national news website France Info “I thought we needed to energise the city and make the elections more jovial”.

He chose the Mr Men as they had “rocked our childhood and they touch all generations”.

But he warned against reading too much into the names and who could be hiding behind them: “I’m not campaigning for anyone.”

And he added that he was not intent on vandalising the official posters, saying: “I did not even use paste.”

However, the posters outside the maternelle in Richter area of Montpellier were quickly replaced with the official ones.
