Checklist: New traffic-light Covid rules for travel to or from France

Requirements for essential reasons, Covid tests and quarantine differ depending on whether your destination is on the green, amber or red list. Use our easy-look table to check what you need to do

The French government has outlined a traffic light-based travel system that will come into effect on June 9 and facilitate travel during the Covid-19 pandemic this summer.

The system categorises all countries and territories as green, amber or red.

All EU countries as well as Australia, Israel, Japan and some others have been classed as green.

The UK and US and much of the rest of the world is amber. Countries such as Brazil, India and South Africa are red.

See a map of the colour-coded countries at the end of this article.

It has not yet been clarified how this announcement will affect current travel rules in place between the UK and France.

Different rules will apply to the different countries, with people who are vaccinated against Covid-19 having the most privileges.

It has not yet been specified which vaccine types will be accepted by French authorities, but it is thought it will be the four that are approved for use in the EU, those of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca.

People will be considered “vaccinated” two weeks after they receive their full complement of doses or four weeks for those vaccinated with Johnson & Johnson's single-shot vaccine.
