Rain, snow return as winter strikes back across France

After a mild March, April's arrival brings a cold and wet spell that could see temperatures fall 10C in 24 hours and snow fall on higher ground

Winter is set to fight back across France in the first week of April, forecasters have warned.

Hopefully, you enjoyed the Spring-like weekend, because cold weather is set to return with a vengeance this week - with snow likely on higher ground, while sleet and rain is forecast for most of the country, Meteo-France said.

Rain is forecast across a large swathe of the country from Tuesday, while temperatures will plunge below seasonal averages from Wednesday. The cold snap is expected to last up to a week, forecasters warned.

The drop in temperatures could be particularly sharp in some regions, with the mercury set to dip by 10C in just 24 hours.

However, it could represent good news for ski resorts, with new snow fall above 800m ready to greet the spring holidays, which start on April 6 for schools in Zone B.
