Strike call as staff told to work hours

Council unions in Marseille have called strike action after the city said it would hold them to work their contracted hours and end ‘little deals’ that allowed staff to work less.

The city’s nearly 12,000 staff are contracted to work 1,567 hours a year – less than the national legal 1,607 hours – but they are still second in the national absenteeism league, with an extra 36.8 days off sick.
