Vintage year for two French Bojos

An organic French wine called Bojo has had a bumper year for sales, according to Beaujolais wine specialist les vins Aujoux.

But is this due to the name link to Boris Johnson?

Les vins Aujoux managing director Bruno Mallet said: “Our Bojo sold very well this year, but I think it’s more linked to the progression of organics in France than to the name ‘Bojo’.

“But who knows? We didn’t name it that on purpose. We must have been selling it under that name for around six years.

“It’s a complete coincidence, but one of our British customers did remark on it this year and say ‘Oh, you’ve got Bojo!’.

“It amused us. ‘Beaujo’ is a slang expression for Beaujolais and it’s probably existed since even before Boris Johnson was mayor of London, but it’s true you don’t usually see it on the label and it’s normally not spelt ‘Bojo’. We have a trademark on that for France.”

Mr Mallet said he would consider sending a bottle to Mr Johnson. “It’s not too late. I might still do it,” he said.
