Corsica, Normandy and Pays-de-la-Loire are the first regions to try the new number that allows residents to speak directly to a GP for non-urgent medical advice after 20.00, on weekends or on public holidays.

The health minister wants 116 117 available nationwide by the end of the year as she knows it can be difficult for people to get medical advice outside normal surgery hours.

Open only from 20.00 each night, from noon on Saturday at weekends and all day on public holidays, the 116 117 will ease pressure on the 15 emergency number for Samu.
