Couple shocked to receive €32,000 taxe d'hab bill

Their previous year's bill was just €1,300

A couple from Haute-Garonne were understandably shocked to receive a taxe d'habitation bill for nearly €32,000.

Fortunately, authorities have admitted the €31,632 figure - which the original demand said could be paid in monthly installments of €3,500 - was a mistake.

And the news got even better. After the bill was recalculated, the couple discovered that their charges had dropped from €1,300 last year to €968, due to recent tax cuts.
