Tax-free, but not for all

President Macron recently told members of the public that “no one is going to be paying taxe d’habitation any more” – but did he really mean no one?

It appears not. A spokeswoman for the Economy Ministry said the removal of the tax still concerns only main homes and not second homes.

She added that plans to axe it for the 20% of better-off homes are subject to changes that may follow the Grand Débat consultations.

Other households should benefit this year from 65% off bills (after 30% last year), then no tax at all to pay in 2020 and onwards.
