Sales boom for Breton crêperie as new bag replaces crêpe paper
The bag allows both crêpes and the stronger-tasting galettes to be taken away without touching them, has been a surprise hit, with 1,000 sold in days

Youenn Allano, who runs La Crêperie de Youenn in Langueux, just outside Saint Brieuc, said: “It is one of those things which when you see it you wonder why no one thought of it before.
“I was actually thinking of ways of reducing the amount of paper we use to wrap our crêpes and galettes after I did the sums and realised we were using a tonne and a half a year.
“When I mentioned this to a friend, she took a cloth bag and we played with the shape and I went from there.”
The finished product, made of cotton and linen, is semi-circular, insulated and with a division to allow crêpes on one side and galettes on the other.
Called Sac’h, which means bag in Breton, the bags went on sale in the shop, which sells between 15,000 and 18,000 crêpes and galettes a week.
The bags were sold for €6 from the shop, with €2 of each sale going towards local associations. Demand spread by word of mouth and soon requests were coming from all over France. They were put on sale on the internet for €9.60 – a slightly higher price to cover costs.
“We sold out and are now taking orders for our next lot, which should be with us in September,” Mr Allano told The Connexion.
“It is not a money-making thing for us, but I am very satisfied that we have found a way of reducing the amount of waste paper out there.”
