Can survivor of couple sell French home?

My wife and I are fiscal residents in France. On the death of one of us we believe that the surviving spouse has a legal right to live in the main residence, although our three daughters will each be entitled to a one-third share of half the value. Our concern is that our property may not be suitable for an elderly person. Can the survivor sell it and use the sale proceeds to purchase another, or would he or she be limited to 50% of the proceeds?
