An extra €50m will be made available to teenagers heading back to school in September, the government has announced.
Changes in the allocation de rentrée scolaire ARS will be calculated on the basis of age.
The secretary of state for the family Nadine Morano said that the payment would remain the same at €272.57 for children aged up to ten years old but would rise to €287.57 for those aged 11-14 and €297.57 for 15-18 year olds.
Ms Morano said: “The cost of heading back to school is more expensive for those starting college and those starting lycée.
“We want to give a supplementary boost towards teenagers heading back to school.”
The ARS affects 2.8 million pupils. It is paid each August depending on the number of children in the family and circumstances.
