8 months of Paris motorway delays

Key stretch of road from capital towards Orly airport will be closed for resurfacing work from now until Christmas

DRIVERS passing through Paris over the Easter holidays have been warned to expect severe delays as a key stretch of motorway outside the capital is closed for eight months of renovation work.

Roadworks began yesterday on the southbound carriageway of the A6b, a busy 1.6km link road between the périphérique and the A6 Paris-Lyon motorway.

The road is heavily used by drivers crossing the capital and is one of the main routes to Orly airport from the north.

The Ile-de-France Direction Régionale de l’Equipement said in a statement: "There will be serious delays on roads south of the Paris agglomeration - it is inevitable. We hope some people will use alternative means of transport."

The resurfacing work runs between the Porte d'Italie and Cachan, heading south. The northbound carriageway remains open as usual during the day but will be closed four nights a week.

A website has been set up to help drivers plan alternative routes.
