France-UK travel hit by strike

Warning of long queues as British customs and immigration workers walk out - but Eurostar claims it is not affected

TRAVELLERS heading from France to Britain today face delays on arrival because of a strike by customs and immigration workers.

The UK Border Agency has warned of long queues at ferry ports and airports as hundreds of staff walk out in a 24-hour protest over pension reforms.

The agency said in a statement: "We will do everything we can to minimise disruption and inconvenience to travellers, but our priority will always be to ensure the UK border remains secure."

EasyJet says the strike is more likely to affect passengers heading into the UK than those leaving. Passengers are advised to check for the latest information on delays before they travel.

Eurostar claims it will not be affected by the industrial action and is putting on two extra trains this afternoon to cope with demand from passengers who have changed their travel plans.
